Bar Dancer was foaled on May 23rd, 1967. He was bred by Buster Phipps in Texas. His sire, Dancing Dervish, was a son of the legendary Native Dancer. Dancing Dervish defeated Hall of Fame inductee Gun Bow by nearly five lengths in his only start at Hialeah Park. Dancing Dervish was purchased by Carter McGregor Jr. and stood at the McGregor Hereford Ranch in Wichita Falls, Texas. He sired seventeen Thoroughbred stakes winners, including Prince Astro, Windic, Vamp’s Prize, Native Tango and Dancing Man. Dancing Dervish also sired Quarter Horse stakes winners Native Empress, Dancing Eagle, Gray Dancer, Dancing Butler and Native Diver. His Thoroughbred sons Creole Dancer, Alsop, Ellie’s Dancer, Rhymeroni, Native Shuffle, Trace n Spot, Sharp Drummer, Silver Bar H., Native Buck and Dancer’s Mark sired Quarter Horses. His Quarter Horse sons Fantastic Native, Roan Savage and Dancing Bill were also successful sires.
Ak-Sissy, the dam of Bar Dancer, was bred by Fred G. Smith in Texas. She was by Akbar, a race-winning son of Bull Dog. Ak-Sissy made 32 starts and won four races. One of her wins was against Quarter Horse company at Sunland Park. Ak-Sissy produced four foals for Bud Phipps, including race winners Nuestro Amor and Squaw Jet. She later sold to Bud Carney in Oklahoma where she produced Leedey Kid, a six-time race winner. Her seventh and final foal, Ruffle Lady, was born in 1974 when Ak-Sissy was seventeen years old.
Bar Dancer was unraced. He was owned by Roy and Bryan Archer. They stood this heavily-muscled stallion to Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse mares at their Archer Farm in Lamesa, Texas. His foal crop arrived in 1971. Fast Freddie was his first Racing Register of Merit earner. His Quarter Horse offspring Tesoro Dancer, Kachina Dancer, Balmy Nite Dancer, Riches to Rags, Dancers Doubt, Cash for Kathy, Bar Dancers Bonnet, Misty Blue Bonnet, Dancing Woman, Boones Dancer, Dancing Blue Jay, Dancing Motivation, Sheza Magic Dancer, Dancing Sans, Dr Garcia and Hesa Dancer Too also earned Racing ROMs. Most were out of unproven mares.
Dancing Martha, a brown Quarter Horse mare by Bar Dancer, was bred by Jimmie Caldwell in Texas. She made 25 starts and won 12 races. Dancing Martha set a new track record at Brazos Valley for 440 yards in 22.510 seconds. She went on to produce ten AQHA registered foals. Aaron Wade, a sorrel gelding by Easy Jet Charge and out of Dancing Martha, set a new track record for 660 yards at Lubbock Downs. Dancing Martha was also the dam of Racing ROM earners Julie Bess, Aaron Tu, Moeasy and Zcat Zevi. Her son Dancing Six Moons was a 1D barrel racing money earner. Her daughter Sinnful Dancer was the fourth dam of A Streak of Sting, a barrel horse sire owned by Vicky Johnson and standing at the Teepee Pole Ranch in Alberta, Canada.
Boones Dancer, a gray mare bred by Howard D. Huddle in Texas, was the only stakes-placed Quarter Horse by Bar Dancer. Boones Dancer placed second in the 1982 Trinity Lassie Futurity and third in the 1983 Trinity Lassie Derby. Boones Dancer went on to produce eleven Quarter Horse foals, including Racing ROM earners Oh Dancer Lady, Rare Dancer Jet, Staunch Dancer, Truly Queen and Invisible Machine. She was the second dam of On the Money Annie, a barrel racing money earner and producer.
Silver Certificate, a gray Thoroughbred gelding, was Bar Dancer’s leading earner on the racetrack. Pepper Dancer, a gray Thoroughbred mare by Bar Dancer, won three races and ran second in the Camellia Handicap at Delta Downs. His Thoroughbred daughter Over And Out was the second dam of Brand Nu Gal, winner of the 1992 Edmonton Distaff Stakes at Northlands Park. Bar Dancer might still have a few Thoroughbred descendants racing in Canada today.
Ariel Blue Dancer, a gray stallion out of a daughter of Royal Speck, was the only Performance ROM earner by Bar Dancer. Ariel Blue Dancer went on to sire 28 AQHA registered foals. His son Ariel Bluebird was the damsire of Spicy Gamblerette, the dam of WFG Gamblers Gold, the 2020 APHA Intermediate Ranch Trail World Champion. WFG Gamblers Gold is standing at J&M Performance Horses LLC in Colorado.
In total, Bar Dancer sired 107 Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse foals in ten foal crops. They included 28 race winners, 21 ROM earners and five stakes finalists. They earned $122,068 on the track and 14.0 points in the arena.
Sons of Bar Dancer sired more than 110 AQHA registered foals. Native Emo and Mesa Man were the largest contributors to that number. His daughters produced 122 Quarter Horse foals that earned $84,971 on the track and 46.0 points in the arena. Dancing Pride, a gray gelding by Noble Pride and out of Dancing Woman, was the leading point earner out of a Bar Dancer mare. Six Dancers, a gray mare by Duplicate Six and out of Balmy Dancer, by Bar Dancer, earned a Performance ROM and qualified for the AQHA World Show in Team Penning. Jet Set Dancer, an APHA registered mare out of a daughter of Bar Dancer, was 1D barrel horse.
Bar Dancer’s last foals were born in 1981 when he would have been fourteen years old. Although he was a mediocre sire, his bulldog-type conformation makes him a Thoroughbred worth highlighting!
