Experteeser was foaled on March 3rd, 1971. He was bred in Lexington, Kentucky by Verne H. Winchell Jr., the founder of Winchell’s Donuts and chairman, president and chief executive officer of Denny’s Incorporated. Experteeser was by Nashville, a son of leading sire Nasrullah. Nashville won twelve races, including the 1957 Lakes and Flowers Handicap and Palos Verdes Handicap. Nashville stood at El Rancho Murrieta. Despite his reputation for being aggressive, he became one of the most popular stallions in California. Ruken, Chiclero and Nasharco were among his numerous Thoroughbred stakes winners.
Nashville’s influence spread far beyond the Thoroughbred racetracks. Several of his Thoroughbred sons sired Quarter Horses, Paints and Appaloosas. His most prolific Thoroughbred son, Azure Te, sired more than a thousand Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse foals that earned more than $7 million on the racetrack. Come Six, Azure Three, Six Te, Azure Teen, A Zure Request, Sizzle Te, Comingforth, Twelve Five, Band of Azure and Te n’ Te were some of his top runners and performers. Azure Te was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame in 2015.
Altogether, Thoroughbred sons of Nashville sired more than 3,000 AQHA recognized foals. Aside from Azure Te, some of the biggest contributors to that number were Money Lender, Lotsaluck, La Crema, General Scott and Nashvilles Joy. Towards the end of his career at stud, Nashville covered Quarter Horse mares himself. His Quarter Horse sons Ichibon, Assured Ville and Silver Ville collectively sired more than 750 Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa foals.
Champagne Tost, the dam of Experteeser, was bred by C. M. Crawford Jr. in California. She was by multiple stakes winner Prince Khaled and out of Play Possum, by Fighting Fox, a full-brother to Triple Crown winner Gallant Fox. Champagne Toast shared a dam with stakes winners Empress of India, Flow Line and Recording. She produced her first five foals at actor Desi Arnaz’s Corona Breeding Farm. All five were race winners, including Champsville and Medal With Merit, full-brothers to Experteeser. Champsville won the 1970 Debonair Stakes at Hollywood Park. Together, Champsville and Medal With Merit sired about 150 Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse and Appaloosa foals. Experteeser was Champagne Toast’s first foal to hit the ground outside of California. She produced her eleventh and final foal, Bud’s Toast, for Terrell M. Buchanan in Texas.
As a three-year-old, Experteeser made three starts and earned $1,500 on the racetrack. His best effort was a second-place finish. Despite his failed racing career, Experteeser was still considered a valuable stallion prospect. Robert “Bob” F. Pulse of Yakima, Washington was the first breeder to use Experteeser. Pulse bred the young stallion to at least three Thoroughbred mares in 1975. One of the resulting foals, Naches Pass, won the Yakima Labor Day Handicap at Yakima Meadows. In 1977, his first Quarter Horse foals arrived in the Pacific Northwest. That first crop included Racing Register of Merit earners Yakima River, Experyante, Wind of Spring and Teaser Bar.
Nashville Red, a chestnut gelding out of Pulse’s multiple stakes-winning mare Star’s Apollo, was Experteeser’s first Quarter Horse stakes winner. Nashville Red won the 1979 Western Montana Fair Futurity and 1980 Yakima Fall Derby. He also set a new track record for 300 yards in 15.460 seconds in the 1980 Western Montana Fair Derby. Over four years, Nashville Red made 58 starts, won 15 races, and earned $61,625 on the track. He was AAAT-rated and earned a Superior Race Horse award.
Patrick Hollingsworth bred the next Quarter Horse stakes winner by Experteeser – On the Muscle Man. The sorrel Quarter Horse stallion was out of out of Riki, a stakes-placed daughter of Ricky Taylor. On the Muscle Man won three races, including the 1980 Yakiman Futurity. He later sired 90 AQHA registered foals, as well as APHA and ApHC registered foals. He was Experteeser’s most successful son at stud.
Our Pal Pat and Spurt N Go, the next two Quarter Horse stakes winners by Experteeser, were bred by Larry Daniels. Both horses were out of Music a Go Go, a stakes-winning granddaughter of Go Man Go. Our Pal Pat was a sorrel gelding. He won 19 of his 50 career starts, including the 1980 Grants Pass Futurity, 1981 Walla Walla Spring Derby, 1981 Yakima Fall Derby and 1982 Portland Handicap. Our Pal Pat earned a Superior Race Horse award and later 8.0 performance points. Spurt N Go was a chestnut mare. She won 4 of her 15 starts, including the 1981 Helena Last Chance Futurity.
Ross R. Rakow bred Billy Gumbo, a chestnut stallion by Experteeser and out of Mini Blast, a multiple stakes-winning daughter of Drum Fire. Billy Gumbo won seven races, including the 1981 Northwest Montana Fair Futurity and the 1981 Western Montana Fair Futurity. He later sired 86 AQHA registered foals.
Cats Expert, a sorrel mare out of a daughter of Catawambus Bars, was the last Quarter Horse stakes winner by Experteeser foaled in Washington. Cats Expert won three races, including the 1982 C. Tab Murphy Memorial Futurity. She later produced eight AQHA registered foals. Smoken Jl, a gray gelding by Desert Spirit and out of Cats Expert, was the 1989 Northwest High Point Distance Horse. Cats Expert was also the dam of Racing ROM earners My Sweet Jean, Sir Expert, Smokem John and Dat Cat.
By 1980, Experteeser was purchased by Ted Wells Jr. to stand at the Wells Ranch in Alex, Oklahoma. Wells sought out Experteeser because he was one of the youngest and best-looking sons of Nashville. The five Quarter Horse stakes winners that Experteeser sired from Oklahoma – Morria, Te N Te Charge, Expert Man, Pacific Expert and Ruidoso Expert – were geldings. Morria won the 1986 Cherry Meadows Futurity; Te N Te Charge won the 1986 Idaho QHBA Futurity; Expert Man won the 1987 Michigan Bred Futurity; Pacific Expert won the 1988 Bluegrass Downs 400 Handicap; and Ruidoso Expert won the 1989 Fair Meadows Oklahoma Bred Colts Stakes.
In 1989, Xylophone, a brown Quarter Horse gelding by Experteeser and out of Please Come Home, by Fleet Kirsch, was the AQHA Junior Hunter Hack World Champion. Xylophone was also a finalist in Working Hunter, Equitation Over Fences and Hunter Hack with Julie G. Young at the AQHA World Show in 1994, 1995 and 1996. He was a finalist in Working Hunter with Tehya L. Wensauer at the 2002 AQHA World Show. Altogether, he earned 472.5 performance points. He earned Super Working Hunter awards in the Open and Amateur divisions. Space Cruise was the only other horse by Experteeser that earned a Performance ROM. Dons Expertise, Seven Teeser, Rilteese, Rebarulla, Nashville Law, Teeser Jet, Chesty Puller Too and Chick Experteeser earned performance points.
In total, Experteeser sired 532 Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse foals in thirteen foal crops. His offspring included 191 race winners, 177 ROM earners, 33 stakes finalists, 14 stakes winners, three Superior Race Award earners and one World Champion. They earned $1,179,916 on the track and 584.5 in the arena.
Sons of Experteeser sired more than 230 AQHA registered foals. His daughters produced 545 Quarter Horse foals that earned $967,903 on the track and 364.5 points in the arena. His daughter Radar Controlled produced eleven Quarter Horse foals, including Automatic Pilot, the leading earner out of an Experteeser mare. Automatic Pilot won 17 of his 31 starts, including the 1986 Doc Severinsen Handicap (Gr. 3) at Los Alamitos. He also won the Yakiman Futurity, Mountain Magic Sale Futurity, Yakima Meadows Spring Derby and Pilgrim Handicap. Other stakes winners out of Experteeser mares included Expert Bunny, Pleasant Number and Teasers Express.
Achina, a gray gelding by Fatina, was the leading point-earner out of an Experteeser mare. Achina placed fifth at the 2005 AQHA World Show in Junior Working Hunter. In 2006, he placed tenth in the Amateur division of Hunter Hack at the World Show with Karin M. Holt. He earned a total of 293.0 performance points and Superior Hunter Hack and Working Hunter Awards. Roy O Roy, a brown gelding by Royal Three Charge and out of Eternal Whisper, by Experteeser, earned Performance ROMs in the Open and Youth divisions. Honor Last Chance, Skips Dun It Again, Skiptheeasterbunny, Delightful Sunday, Shoe Cat, Honor Teezin, Nip N Candy, Scoop a Glory and Story Teaser earned performance points.
Lucys Expert, one of Experteeser’s first Racing ROM earners, was the matriarch of the most prominent female family of performance horses carrying his name. Lucys Expert was the dam of seven Quarter Horse foals. All five of her foals that went to the racetrack were winners. Her daughter Dat Tease was the dam of barrel racing money earner Teasin Jetolena, who later produced Teasin Dat Guy, aka “Chewy,” the 2024 PRCA/WPRA NFR Rodeo Barrels Average Reserve Champion with Emily Beisel.
Experteeser’s last foals were born in 1988 when he would have been 17 years old. He is still one of the best-conformed Thoroughbreds to ever stand to Quarter Horse mares.

The Western Thoroughbred
